Mae Prifysgol Rostock eisiau cynnal gollwng yn fwriadol gyda addaswyd yn enetig streptinomycin- / petunia spectinomycin-gwrthsefyll (T16 digwyddiad). Mae addasiad genetig y planhigion hyn ei pherfformio yn y genom plastid ac nid yn y niwclews. Plastids yn cael eu hetifeddu gan y fam ac nid trwy paill, gan wneud trosglwyddo genynnau fertigol gyda phlanhigion gydnaws yn rhywiol eraill bron yn amhosibl. Nod y datganiad oedd asesu a yw trosglwyddo genynnau o DNA plastid drwy paill yn bosibl yn petunia yn y maes.
Mae amlder o drosglwyddo genyn o DNA plastid drwy paill mewn petunia yn gwbl anhysbys, ond mewn tybaco cafodd ei fesur yn y tŷ gwydr gyda thebygolrwydd o 0.01% (Svab a Maliga, 2007). In order to determine whether this frequency holds true for other plants and in the field it was necessary to apply for a multi-annual release.
In the frame of this experiment, genetically modified petunia plants (event T 16) are cultivated as donors around plants of the putative recipient, non-transgenic petunia line (Mae'r 115). The seedlings of the non-transgenic petunia are analysed for any streptinomycin/spectinomycin resistance and for their expression of β-glucuronidase.

In Germany field trials with genetically modified plants have to be approved by the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL), which has to decide within 90 days after the receipt of the application. Un o'r prif broblemau yw bod y cyflwyniad y cynnig i'r cyhoedd yn arwain at unig 30 ymestyn y dyddiad cau dydd, tra bod hyn mewn gwirionedd yn cymryd 65 diwrnod. Yn ail, nifer o sefydliadau eraill fel yr Asiantaeth Ffederal ar gyfer Cadwraeth Natur (BFN), Robert-Koch-Sefydliad (RKI) a Sefydliad Ffederal ar gyfer Asesu Risg (BFR) wedi bod yn rhan yn y broses benderfynu, sydd fel arfer angen 20 diwrnod. Yn ogystal,, gall y broses yn unig yn parhau ar ôl y Comisiwn Canolog Diogelwch Biolegol (ZKBS) wedi rhoi ei farn. Since one of their meetings had to be cancelled, cymeradwyaeth petunia dioddef oedi ychwanegol o 21 diwrnod. Since the plants had to stay over the hot summer period in the greenhouse, they had to be transferred to chilled chambers, leading to additional costs of more the € 5.000 in rent. Yn ogystal,, flowers had to be removed and plants that reached a critical height had to be propagated again via cuttings. In order to do so, the technicians had to drive 30 km every second day to reach the chilled greenhouse. Since this is a governmentally funded project we now have to apply for additional funds to be able to fulfil all the topics described in the project. The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) with € 297,359. Other projects also funded by the ministry depend on the material produced by the field experiment.
