PRRI-lede wat aan die VN se Biodiversiteitskonferensie deelneem 2024

Lede van PRRI het deelgeneem vanaf 21 Oktober deur 1 November 2024 as waarnemers in die VN se Biodiversiteitskonferensie 2024, in Cali, Colombia.

Die VN se Biodiversiteitskonferensie 2024 behels:

• die Sestiende vergadering van die Konferensie van die Partye by die Konvensie oor Biologiese Diversiteit (CBD-COP16),
• die Elfde vergadering van die konferensie van die partye dien as die vergadering van die partye by die Cartagena-protokol oor bioveiligheid (CPB-MOP11), en
• die Vyfde vergadering van die konferensie van die partye wat dien as die vergadering van die partye by die Nagoya-protokol oor toegang en voordeeldeling (NP-MOP5).

Die VN se Biodiversiteitskonferensie 2024 serves as a key forum for global negotiations on biodiversity, biosafety, and equitable genetic resource sharing, aimed at advancing the objectives of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), its protocols, and the Global Biodiversity Framework. Public research organisations such as PRRI play a indispensable role in these discussions by advocating for science-based policies, enhancing collaboration, and supporting innovation.

Die hoofdoel van deelname van PRRI-lede aan COP's en MOP's is om op hoogte te bly – en hou belangstellende PRRI-lede op hoogte – van die ontwikkelinge in internasionale onderhandelinge, en om 'n stem na die tafel te bring wat wetenskap beklemtoon, innovasie, en bewysgebaseerde oplossings vir die doelwitte van die SSK en sy protokolle. Vir hierdie doel, PRRI-lede het met baie afgevaardigdes van partye en ander waarnemersafvaardigings gesels.

In the preparation for and participation UN Biodiversity Conferences PRRI closely collaborates with other member organisations of the Biodiversiteit Innovasie Koalisie.

PRRI delegates focused on building strong collaborative relationships, and also participated actively in the Academia and Research caucus, in which COOPMOP2024 delegates registered under ‘Academia and Research’ collaborate ('N&R contacts: Audrey Wagner (audrey.wagner @ biology.ox.ac.uk) and Hannah Nicholas (hannah.nicholas @ biology.ox.ac.uk).
