In Memoriam Prof. Emiritus Julian Kinderlerer

The PRRI Steering Committee and the PRRI Secretariat learned with great sadness that Steering Committee member Prof. Emiritus Julian Kinderlerer, Tsev kawm ntawv ntawm lub zos dhaus Cape, South Africa, passed away on 17 Lub peb hlis ntuj 2026.

Prof. Kinderlerer served on the PRRI Steering Committee since 2006 and was a driving force in keeping PRRI’s steadfast focus on robust science, meaningful regulation and open communication.

Who ever heard Prof. Kinderlerer speak at events was impressed with his knowledge, professionalism, eloquence, and desire for communication. Those who had the fortune of working directly with Prof. Kinderlerer knew him as an intellectual giant with sincere interest in people and a great sense of humour.

PRRI members from Africa expressed special appreciation for how Prof. Kinderlerer supported the establishment of holistic biosafety frameworks in African countries, and how he trained African country teams in biosafety and in Intellectual Property in biotechnology.

The scientific world has lost a visionary intellect.
