Genome editing is the precise targeted modification of the nucleotide sequence of the genome.
The Oligo-Directed Mutagenesis (ODM) technique makes use of synthetic oligonucleotides that share homology with a target sequence(s) with the exception of the nucleotide(s) to be modified.
Oligonucleotides “target” the homologous sequence in the genome, and create a mismatch at the base pair that is to be modified. This mismatch is recognized by the DNA repair machinery of the cell and the mismatch is repaired introducing the altered nucleotide.
